A161 Has Failed
Tuesday, June 20th, 2006Well, even the limited apology and voluntary action was evidently too much for the progressive wing and far to little for the conservative wing. Pittsburgh’s lay order voted no. The clergy order was divided.
Update: It is worth noting that even had Pittsburgh and the other Network Dioceses voted for A161, it would have […]
A161 Voting Results in the House of Deputies
Tuesday, June 20th, 2006We are waiting for the counting of ballots. Voting was by orders. This means that instead of each vote being counted individually, each clergy and lay deputation from each diocese votes as a block. Deputations can be recorded as voting yes, voting no, or being divided. Divided deputations count as a “no” vote.
Effort to Replace A161 with Windsor Language Ruled “Out of Order”
Tuesday, June 20th, 2006An effort to replace A161 with an alternate resolution directly from the Windsor Report appears to have failed. The chair has ruled it out of order. It has been appealed.
Essentially, the argument (it think) is that it is not constitutionally possible to actually put a moritorium on bishops in same sex relationships without […]
Lots of Procedural Action on the Floor Right Now
Tuesday, June 20th, 2006There have been multiple efforts to either replace or rule out of order A161 this morning. Debate is has just ended on a motion to replace the entire resolution with language drawn directly from the Windsor Report. An effort to extend that debate failed. I’m not quite sure how long it will be before there […]

While We are Waiting…
Sunday, June 18th, 2006We still don’t have any word on the outcome of the election of the Episcopal Church’s next Presiding Bishop. So, join me in comparing Canon Kaeron’s words to the House of Bishops on June 16 to his words to the House of Deputies this morning. There are a couple of subtle but significant differences […]

Saturday, June 17th, 2006The Very Rev. George Werner, president of the House of Deputies and a dean emeritus of Trinity Cathedral, will be honored for his service by the entire convention this evening. The entire Pittsburgh deputation will be attending the initial “special order,” as well as visiting Pittsburgh Episcopalians who have come to Columbus for this […]

Saturday, June 17th, 2006Via Matt Kennedy. Here is the wording that the House of Deputies will consider.
“Resolved the House________ concurring, the 75th GC of TEC, mindful of the “repentance, forgiveness, and reconciliation enjoined on us by Christ,” (WR134) expresses its regret for breaching the proper constraints of the bonds of affection in the events surrounding the General […]
Yet More Testimony to Committee Handling Windsor Resolutions
Saturday, June 17th, 2006Matt Kennedy, as usual, has a play by play of the latest of the long list of hearings on the Episcopal Church’s response to the Windsor Report. The hearing was this morning.
